Giving back to our community forms the cornerstone of OEC Fiber. Since we were founded by Oklahoma Electric Cooperative, we’ve embraced the cooperative spirit. That includes a big focus on community.
What Makes Cooperatives Special?
Every cooperative in the United States follows seven guiding principles. The seventh one, “Concern for Community,” was recently put it into action in a big way!
A Day of Teamwork and Transformation
OEC, OEC Fiber and Pioneer Utility Cooperative joined forces for an amazing day of community service in Blanchard and Newcastle. Over 60 volunteers from both groups worked side by side, breathing new life into neglected areas of our towns.
“At the end of the day, serving our members and subscribers and keeping our community strong is what’s important,” says David Goodspeed, OEC Fiber president. “It doesn’t matter which group is providing service. We all want to make the places we live and serve better, and we’re proud to work beside Pioneer to make that goal a reality.”
Volunteers spent time in senior living communities, the Newcastle library and Main Street in Blanchard to name a few locations. They pulled weeds, cleaned flower beds, planted flowers and performed various other needed tasks in neglected public areas. Their hard work brightened up these community spaces, creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
The Power of Working Together
This project shows what’s possible when cooperatives unite. By combining our efforts, OEC, OEC Fiber and Pioneer accomplished much more than we could have alone. It’s the cooperative spirit in action!
More Than Just a Cleanup
This project did more than beautify our towns. It strengthened the bonds within our community and showcased the collaborative spirit that cooperatives are built on. We’re not just service providers – we’re neighbors, committed to making our shared home a better place.
